Mr. Bally Sketching

Joaquin has finished “Sketching”, the first program in Mr. Bally’s art curriculum. Twice a week for one month he welcomed imaginary instructor Joe Bally (quite a character!) and produced a charcoal drawing on 18×24-inch newsprint paper. He used visual reference for most pieces, and often drew practice sketches before tackling the large format.

—Mama, can you see Mr. Bally?
—No I can’t.
—Do you believe that there is a Mr. Bally here with me, teaching me art?

—Yes Joaquin. He’s in the 5th dimension. That’s why I can’t see him.

—[laughing] HE’S NOT IN THE 5TH DIMENSION!
